News from 3rd Grade
Ms. Latscha

Hi! Welcome to third grade at Nativity School for the 2008-2009 school year.
I am Ms Latscha and our class’s room number is 104. I have been teaching here for many years and may have already met you in the hall, on the playground, in the cafeteria, or perhaps in you classroom. The goals for third grade are for the students to become active Christian citizens in the community. The students will learn responsibility and time management. We want them to be aware that they are capable of learning not only now but also for the rest of their lives.

Homework: The students will copy down their daily homework assignments from the board into their student planner. When the student completes their assignments they should take their work, their planner, a pencil and a smile to their parents. The parents should verify the assignments and sign on the bottom of the planner. The planners are checked daily so if you need to send the teacher a message it can be added at the bottom of the planner.

The students are expected to read a minimum of 15 minutes each day. There will be a reading chart on the front page of their planners. After your child completes their reading and writes it on the chart the parents should initial. Having their homework assignments completed will advance their abilities to participate in class the next day. Daily participation is expected from every student every day.

Test/Quiz: Test and quizzes will be given through out the school year at various times. Any test or quiz with unsatisfactory results will be re-taught and retested. Results will be sent home in the weekly folder following the quiz or test.

Missing work is expected to be turned in late with out consequences. On days when the student is absent all assignments will be placed on the students desk for pick up after school or the next day. The assignments can also be sent home with another student if prearranged.

Grades: The students are graded on their abilities to learn the skills presented each quarter. The weekly report will allow you to keep up with the rate of your child’s development.

There are many ways to contact me. My email address is lclatscha@fuse.net. I am normally around after school and would be happy to talk with you then. Conferences can be arranged for anytime before or after school. You could send a note with your child or write a note in the planners that I check each day. Although phone calls are hard during the day you could always leave a message for me.
